We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Unix / Linux System Administrator to oversee and maintain our server infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering Unix and Linux servers, ensuring system stability, security, and performance. The role involves implementing new systems, troubleshooting issues, performing maintenance, and providing technical support to ensure seamless operations across local and regional sites.

Key Responsibilities :

a) Administration of Unix and Linux Servers

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain enterprise Unix and Linux servers to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
  • Perform regular system checks, updates, and patches to keep environments secure and up-to-date.

b) Installation and Configuration of Systems

  • Deploy new Unix / Linux systems, including hardware setup and OS installation.
  • Configure systems with appropriate settings, including network, storage, and security configurations.
  • Implement backup solutions and high availability configurations to ensure system resilience
  • c) Second-Tier Support & Issue Resolution

  • Provide escalated technical support for complex or unresolved issues.
  • Analyze system logs, diagnose problems, and plan effective resolutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to seek appropriate solutions and perform root cause analysis
  • d) Operational Tasks & Incident Management

  • Address and resolve daily operational incident tickets promptly.
  • Manage change requests, including system upgrades, patches, and configuration changes, adhering to organizational policies
  • e) Preventive Maintenance & Performance Optimization

  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks, such as system health checks and performance tuning.
  • Identify and implement performance improvements to enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • f) Vendor Support & Technical Escalations

  • Initiate and follow up on support tickets with hardware and software vendors.
  • Coordinate with vendors to resolve hardware failures, firmware issues, or complex technical problems
  • g) Documentation & Process Management

  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps comprehensively.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of system changes, incident reports, and maintenance activities.
  • h) System Maintenance & Upgrades

  • Perform regular upgrades, patches, and enhancements to existing Unix / Linux systems.
  • Plan and execute system migrations or upgrades at local and regional sites to ensure minimal downtime
  • i) On-Premises Standby Support

  • Provide standby services, including on-site support outside of regular working hours for critical hardware replacements and service restorations.
  • Be prepared to respond promptly to urgent hardware or system failures to minimize business impact
  • Qualifications & Skills :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Proven experience (3+ years) in Unix / Linux system administration.
  • Strong knowledge of server installation, configuration, and management.
  • Experience with backup solutions, high availability, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Knowledge of networking, storage, and security best practices.
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle on-call responsibilities
  • Additional Requirements :

  • This role may require on-call standby duties outside of standard office hours.
  • The candidate should be prepared to work at regional sites as needed.
  • A proactive approach to system maintenance and troubleshooting is essential
