The Role
Responsible for the collection, handling and processing of blood specimens from adult, paediatric and / or infant patients as ordered by the Clinicians. Supervise team of Phlebotomists to ensure smooth operations in Unit.
Key accountabilities
- Responsible for the skilful, timely and accurate collection of blood specimens from patients as requested by the clinician using any of the appropriate techniques listed below :
- Venipuncture
- Capillary collection – fingerstick or heelstick
- Blood culture specimen collection
- Ensure timely and accurate collection of breath sample for the Urea Breath Test.
- Acquire knowledge and skills on Laboratory Information System and required IT systems.
- Assist in managing and inventorize supplies in the laboratory.
- Rotate duties between Hospitals as determined by Manager.
- Work alongside laboratory manager and colleagues to achieve total quality service and customer satisfaction.
- Responsible for the overall performance of section assigned.
- Provide induction and trianing of new Phlebotomists.
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time by management.
Qualifications & Experience
Certified PhlebotomistAt least 3 years in Phlebotomy with experience in venepuncture for adults, paediatrics and infants.Supervisory experience is an added advantage.Good interpersonal skills.Patient / customer service orientated.
