Roles & Responsibilities

Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

As a Senior Strategy Consultant - Environmental & Energy Economist, you will lead and deliver complex strategy projects across the built and urban environment, with a particular emphasis on the energy sector. These projects may include landscape assessments, economic positioning, investment prioritisation, market assessments, market entry strategies, industry transition roadmaps, commercial due diligence, infrastructure strategy, and governance frameworks. You will also contribute to the development and execution of Arup’s advisory offerings across energy, water, and infrastructure domains—focusing on market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and commercial M&A advisory, with an emphasis on climate finance, environmental economics, and demand and cost modelling.

Candidates should bring at least 7 years of consulting experience, with deep expertise in economic modelling, environmental economics, and infrastructure investment strategy, supported by strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.

The Opportunity

  • Manage and deliver multidisciplinary strategy projects across energy, water, and infrastructure sectors. This includes market and competition assessments, regulatory reviews, economic impact analysis, and commercial due diligence. You will ensure that project outcomes are aligned with client objectives and delivered to a high standard.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in demand and cost modelling, climate finance, and environmental economics. Oversee the use of advanced modelling techniques and data tools (e.g., Power BI) to assess market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and investment pathways. Support strategic planning and regulatory assessments with robust analytical insights.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, helping to expand Arup’s advisory offerings in the energy and water sectors. Identify new opportunities, contribute to proposal development, and leverage market insights to craft compelling, winning pitches.
  • Work closely with Arup’s technical experts—engineers, economists, planners—to integrate multidisciplinary insights into strategy work. Translate complex technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations and client-ready deliverables.
  • Mentor and support junior consultants in developing their consulting, analytical, and commercial skills. Help build team capabilities in strategic consulting, applied modelling, and stakeholder engagement. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

  • Tertiary qualifications in economics, energy or environmental economics, or climate / green finance.
  • Minimum 7 years of consulting experience in energy, water, or transport infrastructure sectors.
  • Proven expertise in market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and climate finance advisory.
  • Strong proficiency in advanced modelling techniques and data tools such as Power BI.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and presentation skills across technical and non-technical audiences
