Senior Underwriter, Engineering
If you are ready to take on new challenges in a dynamic environment, we encourage you to apply this position reporting to Underwriting Manager, Engineering, you will have responsibility for contributing to grow the Engineering and Renewable Energy portfolio portfolio in ASEAN region. As a general insurance professional, you will have experience underwriting portfolio of business and contributing to a profitable portfolio by developing an understanding of underwriting principals and disciplines through discussions and research. You will assist in the growth objectives of the portfolio by identifying opportunities for growth in the region and assist with the development of the Engineering line of business pipeline.

Job Purpose
As a Senior Underwriter in the Engineering Department, you will manage and underwrite a portfolio of engineering risks, ensuring profitable growth in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. Your role will include providing technical expertise, mentoring junior underwriters, and fostering robust relationships with brokers and clients to achieve strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting and Risk Assessment
- Evaluate and underwrite engineering risks, including project business and operational risk of renewable energy, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
- Collaborate with referrals, claims teams, risk engineers to enhance underwriting strategies.
- Utilize actuarial models, rating tools, and market data to price risks effectively, ensuring profitability.
- Develop tailored insurance solutions for complex engineering accounts.
Portfolio Management
Monitor the performance of the engineering portfolio and implement corrective actions to maintain profitability.Prepare regular and ad hoc reports on underwriting performance, risk exposures, and market trends.Business Development
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with brokers and key clients to drive new business opportunities and renewals.Participate in client and broker meetings to showcase underwriting capabilities and innovative solutions.Identify market opportunities and develop strategies to capture profitable business in the engineering sector.Leadership and Mentoring
Provide guidance and training to junior underwriters, enhancing their technical acumen and decision-making capabilities.Serve as a technical resource for complex engineering cases, ensuring alignment with company standards and best practices.Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the underwriting team.Regulatory and Compliance
Ensure underwriting practices align with internal guidelines, frameworks, and regulatory standards.Stay informed of changes in regulations, laws, and industry practices affecting engineering insurance.Qualifications
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, Business, Finance, Insurance.Professional certifications such as ACII or ANZIIF are advantageous.Experience
A minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering underwriting with a proven track record in managing complex engineering accounts.Strong knowledge of engineering lines, including products of project business and operational risk of renewable energy.Working experience in the Engineering or related field, loss adjusting, or risk engineering are advantageousTechnical Skills
Proficiency in underwriting tools, pricing models, and risk assessment methodologies specific to engineering risks.Solid understanding of legal, regulatory, and market developments in engineering insurance.Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.Soft Skills
Excellent communication and presentation skills.Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Leadership qualities that inspire and mentor a team.Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
