APAC Tax Manager

With the expansion of Assets under Management and the related expansion of APAC activities in various products and locations, the recruited individual will provide direct tax support to the APAC Tax team in Asia, and work with the wider Global tax teams based in New York City and London.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provides support on advisory for all aspects of the trading entities and asset management company operations, including related party transactions and cross-border transactions.
  • Provides oversight to review on APAC tax compliance requirements and tax provisions on audited financial statements, including liaising with internal accounting staff and external tax preparers.
  • Analyze and liaise with external advisors when vetting new jurisdictions for PE risks, TSH provisions, treaty provisions, transfer pricing implications, establishing / closing offices, reviewing contractual arrangements for new IT / Server equipment, obtaining / renewing tax rulings.
  • Provide responses to trading teams’ questions regarding the tax rules and tax requirements of APAC countries
  • Address tax issues related to employees in APAC locations, including PE risks of traveling employees and mobility issues .
  • Perform tax research for the appropriate tax treatment focusing on tax matters across Asia.
  • Assist in APAC tax audits of management companies and funds
  • Assist in and liaise with advisors and accounting teams on transfer pricing, CBCR and BEPS projects
  • Monitor and advise the wider tax department on APAC tax developments
  • Interaction with various other internal departments including Accounting, Operations, Legal, and HR.

Qualifications / Skills Required

  • 12-15 years of substantial international tax advisory and compliance experience with a combination of the Big 4 and the tax department of an international Hedge Fund or Private Equity Fund.
  • Undergraduate / Masters degree
  • Relevant recognized qualification (ATA, CTA, CPA, or equivalent) required
  • Experience with tax regimes in APAC
  • Team player. Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Superb research skills. Excellent analytical skills and judgment
  • Strong technical proficiency with web applications and MS Office
  • Ability to multi-task as well as meet short deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Detail oriented; demonstrates thoroughness and strong ownership of work
