Job description

The Mathematics and Mathematics Education (MME)Department at the NIE is part of the Singaporemathematics education ecology that has produced a world-classsystem for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be aworld-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians.A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who baseshis / her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematicsdisciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics educationresearch findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematicianeducators for Singapore and the world through research andexemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematicseducation and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within achanging environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essentialto a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative andresearch-informed ways of delivering mathematics content andpedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as wecollaborate with educators in the schools.

Requirements

Thesuccessful candidate should satisfy the followingcriteria :

A PhD in MathematicsEducation from a reputable university.
A strongrecord of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewedinternational journals.
A strong record inuniversity teaching in mathematics education courses forpre-service and in-service teachers.
A strongrecord of leadership in research management (e.g. securingcompetitive research grants) and curriculumdevelopment.
Must have past experience teachingin schools for K-12levels.

Responsibilities

Thesuccessful candidate will be expectedto :

contribute to teaching and coursedevelopment at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels formathematics education

develop a researchprogramme and secure competitive researchgrants

supervise graduate and undergraduatestudents in mathematics education research and schoolpracticum

teach mathematics education coursesfrom pre-service to postgraduate level

teachelementary mathematics content courses for undergraduatepre-service teachers

For Associate Professorlevel) mentoring of young faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, theMinistry of Education and other public education-relatedorganizations on a requestbasis.
