Job descriptionUnderstand and implement the expectations and policies established by HWA Participate in professional duties as necessary outside of the scope of the school day (e.g. Field trips, professional development on weekends as needed, and after school meetings as required) Supervise duties at break / lunch and / or other unstructured times Lead / coach an after school CCA (co-curricular activity) Assist in internal sub coverage according to department needs Provide any other reasonable duties delegated by the School Contribute to school continuous improvement by being a member of assigned committee or work group Responsible for homeroom teacher duties Collaborate with colleagues to promote interdisciplinary learning. Develop trust and effective relationships with all students in the classes and their parents Establish supportive, collaborative, and positive working relationships with all other members of staff Become a positive presence across the whole school and a representative of it within its wider community Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Literature or a related field. IB teaching experience in Language and Literature is highly desirable. Skilled at fostering inquiry, discussion, and higher-order thinking. Ability to engage students with varying language proficiencies. 2 to 3 years of working experience in the related field is preferred
Roles & Responsibilities
At HWA International School, we empower students to succeed in global contexts through the IB framework. We are looking for a dedicated teacher of English Language and Literature who can bring texts alive and challenge students to become critical thinkers and effective communicators.
Teaching duties
- Teach English Language and Literature at MYP and DP levels.
- Guide students in exploring diverse literary texts and real-world communication.
- Prepare engaging lessons that balance analysis of English Language and Literature.
- Support students with essay writing, oral presentations, and exam preparation in Language and Literature.
- Contribute to departmental planning and whole-school initiatives.
- Design engaging lessons that integrate language, culture, and literature.
- Mentor students to develop analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Demonstrate through collaboration, planning and teaching, the IB and MYP / DP framework of concepts within contexts, and inquiry-based learning that is balanced with specific skills of ‘how to learn’, leading learning towards the IB vision and the aims of individual subject areas and that incorporates interdisciplinary teaching and learning
- Work and collaborate with Student Support Department to enrich curriculum and student learning
- To differentiate and target learning to students’ needs and aptitude levels
- Be culturally and linguistically responsive and proactive
