Job Summary

As a Steersman, you will ensure the safe navigation and maneuvering of vessels within waterways and ports. You will collaborate with the navigation team, ship's crew, and port authorities to steer vessels safely under various conditions while following maritime regulations and best practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate and man specified crafts and other assigned vessels to support maritime operations
• Inspect and maintain engines to ensure reliable vessel performance
• Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of crafts to uphold safety and hygiene standards
• Identify and report any mechanical or operational faults promptly for timely repairs
• Assist officers with general tasks including mooring and unmooring operations to secure vessels safely
• Participate in oil pollution control activities to protect the marine environment
• Perform general housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and orderly work environment
• Follow all safety rules and procedures set by the terminal and company to ensure personal and team safety

Required competencies and certifications

• Hold a valid MPA Helmsman / Steersman (Port Limit) / MPA SR license or equivalent
• Pass an approved eyesight test to meet navigation safety standards
• Have at least 1 year of ferry boat experience operating harbour vessels

Preferred competencies and qualifications

• Enjoy working outdoors and demonstrate stamina to work long hours in maritime conditions
