Roles & Responsibilities
The Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) is seeking a Lead Research Engineer to lead the design and delivery of innovative software solutions for smart manufacturing. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer & solution architect with strong leadership skills who can combine deep software expertise with AI-driven approaches to transform planning, scheduling, and inventory management. The role will not only architect enterprise-grade solutions but also drive the R&D technology roadmap, mentor development teams, and ensure seamless integration of AI / ML and GenAI capabilities into next-generation manufacturing platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor development teams for enterprise applications for production scheduling, operations planning, as well as sourcing & inventory analytics.
- Define and implement enterprise solution architectures using .NET C#, Angular, and microservice-based platforms.
- Setting technical direction and ensuring engineering excellence.
- Drive the integration of AI / ML, GenAI, and optimisation techniques to enhance planning, scheduling, and inventory management.
- Develop and maintain the R&D technology roadmap for smart manufacturing applications.
- Establish standards for data management, interoperability, and real-time analytics in manufacturing ecosystems.
- Collaborate with all stakeholders to align solutions with business and operational requirements.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and guide adoption to maintain a future-ready manufacturing stack.
- Lead architecture reviews, design discussions, and provide hands-on technical guidance.
- Contribute to the creation of AI-powered applications that optimise resource allocation, supply chains, and production efficiency.
Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.7+ years of experience in software development and solution architecture.Proven expertise in .NET C# (backend) and Angular (frontend).Strong track record in leading teams and driving technology roadmaps.Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-native platforms (AWS / Azure).Deep understanding of AI / ML frameworks, GenAI tools, and optimisation algorithms in planning and scheduling contexts.Familiarity with industrial IoT and edge computing in manufacturing environments.Deep knowledge of DevOps / DevSecOps practices, CI / CD pipelines, and secure architectures.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Excellent leadership skills.Strategic thinker with the ability to balance innovation, feasibility, and business impact.The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive.
