Roles & Responsibilities
The Field Engineer is responsible for identifying, investigating, and diagnosing operational issues associated with IoT nework equipment and sensors through to completion. This role bridges the gap between back-office systems and field deployment, ensuring optimal network performance, device communication reliability, and successful implementation of smart grid initiatives across the service territory.
Key Responsibilities :
- Investigations will include cross system checks and validation to confirm the origin of the issue and if further field diagnosis is required
- Field diagnosis will include on site investigations of radio communications equipment and sensors (which include communications interfaces) to determine root cause analysis and initiate remedial works as is appropriate
- Provides on-site technical assistance to investigate, troubleshoot and repair equipment and software applications as well as serving as an escalation point for these activities.
- Where remedial works are required the field tech will create work orders and service tickets to ensure works are completed and issues are resolved ahead of service level requirements
- Escalate patterns of issues that may be systemic of underlying trends through problem tickets for further engineering analysis
- Lead field deployment of communication infrastructure including collectors, repeaters, and access points
- Conduct RF site surveys and network coverage analysis to optimise communication topology
- Coordinate installation programs and ensure proper network registration and commissioning
- Conduct field testing of new technologies and communication protocols
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for field operations and troubleshooting procedures
