What the day will look like
The Head of Marine role serves as a senior leader who deliver insurance and risk management solutions in the Marine space. This role combines sophisticated client advisory with leadership on broking, market relationships, and business development. This role is responsible for setting strategic direction, provision of broking and consulting service, and driving the growth and innovation of Marine risk management and insurance offerings.
Team Leadership
- Lead Singapore Marine retail team to achieve financial targets and oversee operational and personnel processes
- Provide guidance and support on technical, client servicing matters and business growth
- Build, motivate and maintain a cohesive High-Performance Team that is highly engaged
- Mentor staff in their professional development, including training staff to be key client relationship managers for key Marine clients
- Actively drive budgeting, forecasting, and pipeline management to achieve financial goals.
Client advisory and servicing
Client relationship management for key accountsDiscover client’s needs in comprehensive manner, evaluating risk exposures and insurance needsSet client service scope and expectationsAct as a trusted advisor to clients and recommend appropriate risk management strategies and insurance solutions for various Marine risks (Cargo, Hull & Machinery, Protection & Indemnity, Builder’s Risks, Charterer’s Liabilities, Freight Forwarder’s Liability, Marina / Terminal Operator’s Liability etc)Review and advise on client’s contractual insurance requirements with project owners, contractors and financersAdvise on local statutory insurance requirements, stay updated on industry regulations and risk management standardsPrepare and review insurance proposals, policies and endorsements,Lead negotiations with major clients and maintain relationships with client’s senior executivesDrive Business Growth
Drive or be involved in securing key clients / prospectsLead and participate in new business pitches, RFP responses, and cross-selling efforts.Identify new market opportunities and drive business growth for team and CRS as a wholeBroking, Market Management and Claims
Drive or assist with the design, structure, negotiation and placement of major insurance programs, including regional and global programBuild and maintain strong, senior-level relationships with insurers and underwriters in Marine.Own and drive utilization of placement facilities for Marine risksEnsure Marine claims are being progressed efficiently and effectively for clients, including advocating for clients in complex claims casesThought Leadership, Innovation & Knowledge Management
Be the subject matter expert on Marine risk and insurance solutions within Aon SingaporeDrive thought leadership content for clients and markets, demonstrating industry insight and understanding of risks and solutions.Contribute to up-to-date materials on market trends, carrier appetite and marine client solutions.Stay ahead of market trends, ensuring access to innovative insurance products and bespoke solutions.Ensure that knowledge and best practice approaches are shared, captured, documented to ensure resiliency in the broking functionDelivering Aon United (DAU)
Collaborate closely with other Aon teams both within and beyond CRS practice in Singapore to deliver a broad range of insurance solutions and services to clients.Engage and work closely with Regional Marine Team to deliver complex solutions for clientsKeep up to date on Aon IQ and wide range of innovative solutions across all Aon departmentsImplement and utilise client-related value propositions, systems and processes including (but not limited to) Aon Brokers Guide, Aon Client LeadershipWork on projects and cross-department collaborationsDevelop / share solutions beyond own immediate teamSkills and Experience that will lead to success
Bachelor’s degree or DiplomaGeneral Insurance academic qualifications, ACII or equivalent would be advantageousAt least 12 years of experience in the marine insurance industryMeticulous, proactive and able to multi-task efficientlyExcellent negotiation, communication, organizational and leadership skillsAbility to analyze complex contracts and policy documentsPossess good analytical mind with strong business acumenA strong team playerHow we support our colleagues
