The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) and the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) are seeking a Research Assistant to support projects on earthquake physics and geophysical modelling.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Luca Dal Zilio as part of the Computational Geophysics Lab. The primary role of the Research Assistant will be to conduct data analysis of physics-based earthquake cycle simulations, including running scripts, visualising model outputs, and preparing figures and tables for research dissemination.

This position is ideal for a recent graduate in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Applied Physics, or a related field, with a strong interest in computational modelling and geoscientific data analysis.

This is a full-time research position with opportunities for skill development, potential graduate-level study, and participation in a collaborative research environment focused on earthquake processes and tectonics.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Assist in running numerical simulations of earthquake cycles using existing modelling tools and scripts
  • Perform data analysis on simulation results, including stress and slip evolution, and recurrence patterns
  • Generate scientific plots, figures, and tables for use in publications and presentations
  • Support code organization, documentation, and reproducibility of results
  • Work collaboratively with other researchers in the Computational Geophysics Lab
  • Participate in regular group meetings and contribute to general lab activities

Job Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Geophysics, Earth Sciences, Applied Physics, or a related discipline
  • Basic experience in numerical modelling, geophysical data analysis, or computational earth sciences
  • Familiarity with Python and / or MATLAB for data analysis and visualization
  • Interest in earthquake physics, tectonics, or crustal deformation processes
