Vessel Operations Manager
Description
The Vessel Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of assigned vessels. This includes supervising and ensuring safe and efficient execution of cargo loading and discharging activities.
The role involves providing the Master with necessary guidance and updates on cargo, ports, routes, and other operational matters. The manager must also nominate agents and protective agents when required, review and approve proforma and final PDAs, and liaise with agents to coordinate vessel arrival and departure procedures.
The Vessel Operations Manager assists the Master with preparation for on-hire and off-hire arrangements, monitors vessel fuel oil and freshwater consumption, and organizes timely replenishment. They share details on berthing schedules, cargo operations, departure status, bunker quantities, and cargo hold conditions with the Chartering Manager.
The role requires tracking charterers' redelivery notices and issuing delivery notices to subsequent charterers. Joint on-hire / off-hire surveys are arranged in coordination with current and next charterers. Liaison with insurers and P&I Clubs is necessary for coverage and claim handling.
The Vessel Operations Manager manages charter party disputes, including performance-related claims and other contractual issues. Coordination with P&I Clubs is also necessary for arranging pre-loading inspections for steel and other valuable cargoes.
In addition, the role involves working with charterers and management companies on vessel transits through high-risk areas, deploying armed security and insurance arrangements as needed. Freight and hire invoices are prepared, payments monitored, collections followed up, and outstanding balances reconciled.
Laytime is computed, and demurrage and dispatch settlements finalized.
