Overview

The Asian Languages and Cultures (ALC) atthe National Institute of Education in Singapore comprises theChinese, Malay, and Tamil Divisions. ALC's vision is to worktowards the mission of NIE and establish ALC as a Centre ofExcellence for Chinese, Malay and Tamil Languages, Literature,Culture and Education. We aim to nurture excellentteacher-researchers devoted to the development and promotion ofmother tongue language education, Asian values and cultures aspillars of Singapore's national identity and harmony. Studentteachers who enrol in our programmes can expect to receive a firmacademic foundation in content knowledge of their area studies aswell as current knowledge in curriculum and pedagogy. ALC'sresearch places emphasis on high-impact interdisciplinary content,pedagogical innovation, challenging existing theories and extendingthe prevalent boundary of Asian studies.

ALCinvites suitably qualified applicants to apply for a facultyposition in its Chinese language and culture division. The Chinesedivision of ALC provides training for Chinese language teachersthrough both pre-service and professional development programmes inSingapore.

Requirements

• Applicantsmust hold a doctoral degree in Applied Linguistics, with a stronginterest in second language acquisition, curriculum development,and the pedagogy of teaching listening, speaking, reading, andwriting skills both as a mother tongue and as a second language tochildren and adolescents
• Extensive experienceand expertise in research in the abovefields
• Native or near-native competence in oraland written Chinese and English
• Demonstratestrong ability for effective undergraduate and graduate levelteaching
• Sufficient knowledge of the Singaporecurriculum and the Singapore educationsystem
• Sufficient knowledge of the GlobalChinese curriculum and the education system for internationalschools(preferred).

Responsibilities

For Associate Professorlevel) Mentoring of young faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, theMinistry of Education and other public education-relatedorganizations on a requestbasis.
