Job description

The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.

We are currently recruiting a Research Assistant/ Research Associate with experience in human cell culture, focusing on airway epithelial models. The key objective of this role is to support the development and implementation of a national biorepository of respiratory-derived cell cultures, with the overarching aim of enhancing pandemic preparedness. • Assist the SRF/RF in establishing, optimizing, and maintaining airway- and lung-derived organoid models for experimental use

  • Pperform functional assays (e.g., TEER, immunofluorescence, gene expression analysis) on ALI and organoid systems

  • Experience with viral infection models or virus challenge experiments is desirable but not essential

  • Maintain accurate experimental records and contribute to SOP development and optimization

  • Assist in data organization, storage, and documentation to ensure reproducibility and compliance with data governance policies

  • Assist in lab administration tasks to ensure smooth research operations

  • Contribute to manuscript preparation

Key Competencies and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (for Research Assistant) and Master's degree (for Research Associate) in Biomedical science, Biological Science, or a related field; fresh graduates are welcome to apply

  • Experience in airway epithelial cell culture, ALI and/or organoid technology is optional but highly desirable.

  • Hands-on experience in cell culture including air-liquid interface

  • Proficiency in microscopy (including IF/IHC), qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking across projects.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a team-based research environment.

  • Leadership qualities with mentoring or supervisory experience preferred.
