Job Description
The Electrical Engineer : This role involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on various vessels. The ideal candidate will have experience working on ships, boats or Marine electrical workshops with a strong expertise in electrical engineering, marine systems, and regulatory standards, while prioritizing safety and efficiency
Job Accountability
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine inspections, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems, including generators, transformers, motors, and control circuits
- Have in depth knowledge of safety and alarms systems on board – 4 stroke Engine safeties and alarms, safeties related to fire detection, fire alarms etc.
- Able to test, troubleshoot, maintain and repair- safety and alarms systems on board – 4 stroke Engine safeties and alarms, safeties related to fire detection, fire alarms etc.
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues related to propulsion systems, navigation systems, and onboard power distribution systems
- Have in depth knowledge of navigation and radio equipment : Keeping these systems in optimal working condition
Collaboration
Work closely with other engineering disciplines, such as mechanical engineers, to ensure integrated system functionalityCoordinate with vessel operators and other marine personnel to ensure systems are functioning optimallySafety & Compliance
Ensure all electrical works meet safety standards and regulatory requirementsMonitor compliance with the company’s health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) proceduresDocument all electrical systems, maintenance work, inspections, and repairsTroubleshooting and Emergency Support
Be available for emergency electrical repairs and troubleshooting, both at sea and in port, as neededEducational / Skills Qualification
Education
Bachelor’s degree / diploma in electrical engineering or a related fieldExperience
At least 2-3 years of experience in marine electrical engineering, ideally working on ships, boats or Marine electrical workshopsStrong knowledge of electrical design, troubleshooting, and maintenance for marine vesselsSkills :
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesExcellent understanding of electrical components, systems, and controls specific to marine environmentsStrong communication skills, both written and verbalAbility to work under pressure and in diverse working environments (at sea, onshore)Good organizational and project management skillsCertifications :
STCW certification (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers)Additional certifications in electrical engineering or marine engineering (preferred)Tell employers what skills you have
