EMA - Data AI Engineer

Job Purpose

The Engineering and Management Associate (EMA) Programme is SMRT’s graduate programme which will provide a structured pathway for those who aspire to make a difference as engineering leaders.

Responsibilities

Job Purpose: Join us to help build and operate the data foundation that powers SMRT’s WINK+ app and adjacent services. You will work on data pipelines, backend services, and AI-enabled features (e.g., personalization, intelligent assistance, predictive insights) that improve user engagement and operational efficiency. This role offers hands-on experience to data engineering, cloud technologies (AWS/Azure), and AI engineering (LLMs, Azure AI, MLOps).

• Assist in developing and maintaining data pipelines (ETL/ELT) for WINK+.
• Leverage user and behavioral data to build a personalization engine that enhances the overall Wink+ user experience.
• Automate content sourcing and generation using AI/ML techniques to ensure the Wink+ app consistently displays accurate, up-to-date product and menu information.
• Support integration of data from multiple sources and ensure data quality and reliability.
• Participate in troubleshooting, debugging, and performance optimisation under guidance.
• Work with senior engineers to design and deploy AI solutions, e.g., LLM-powered assistance, content generation, personalisation and demand forecasting.
• Assist in preparing datasets, feature engineering, experiment tracking, and model evaluation; help implement MLOps (deployment, monitoring, retraining).
• Gain experience to Azure AI services (Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, Azure ML), Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Data Factory for scalable AI workflows.
• Build interactive dashboards or simple UIs (e.g., Power BI /open-source frameworks) to deliver actionable insights.

Technical Skills

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, clean, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques.
• Knowledge of programming languages (Python, SQL, R & Java).
• Experience in Azure Cloud technologies (i.e., Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Service (AAS), Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL DB, Azure Functions, Event Hub, Azure Synapse, Azure Logic Apps and ARM Templates) is a plus.
• Exposure through coursework, projects, or internships to data engineering or backend development is an advantage.
