STAR BII) is seeking outstanding and visionary 1) early-career and 2) senior faculty candidates to lead cutting-edge and mission-oriented research programs in biomolecular and biomedical data science. As the leading computational biology and biomedical informatics research institute in Singapore, ASTAR BII is dedicated to creating value from data to accelerate discovery, improve health, and drive economic growth. We derive actionable insights from a wide spectrum of biological and biomedical data, including omics data (biomolecular sequences, expression profiles, epigenetics data), 3D structures of macromolecules, and biological tissue and macroscopic images using AI / ML-based and other computation techniques.Strategically aligned with A

Through our strategic initiatives, such as AI for Drug Discovery together with the national platform Experimental Drug Development Center (EDDC), ASTAR BII galvanizes a robust biomedical research ecosystem aimed at clinical and economic impact. Our talent development efforts in bioinformatics and data analytics contribute significantly to Singapore standing as a global leader in biomedical research and technology.We are seeking highly motivated experts passionate about biomedical and clinical applications and the translation of technologies to improve healthcare and / or societal outcomes.
This role is ideal for candidates who want to build and lead impactful, data-driven research teams. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to both advancing cutting-edge computational data science and an innovative, application-oriented mindset for real-world applications in healthcare.
Job scope and responsibilities :
A. Lead a dynamic research team specializing in one of the following high-impact areas. Experts from other related areas are also welcome to apply.
Quantum Computing for biology and biomedical applications.AI in drug discovery with relevant industry experience.AI for healthcare and biomedical science.AI and generative foundation models : Synthetic data, Agentic AI and Clinical and multi-omics data analysis with deep expertise specific disease area(s).Synthetic biology, including, e.g., AI-driven (bio)retrosynthesis and metabolic modelling, and (agentic) AI approaches to the Design-Build-Test-Learn cycle of microbial strain engineering.B. Forge strong partnerships with clinicians and with other faculty members within A
STAR and the local ecosystem to realise synergies in research.C. Collaborate with industrial partners to translate computational advances into real-world practice.
D. Lead and actively participate in external competitive research grants.
Job Requirements :
PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline) with at least 8 years of relevant experience.An exceptional track record of research accomplishments, evidenced by a strong publication and citation record (e.g. Clarivate highly cited, FWCI >2).
Excellent communication (oral and written) and public speaking skills.Demonstrated strategic thinking ability and a clear vision for innovative research.A strong interest in both developing cutting-edge computational data science and driving innovation to improve healthcare outcomes.Evidence of the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers from diverse backgrounds, including clinicians and industry partners.Track record of entrepreneurship and / or technology transfer activities is preferred.Experience in leading and mentoring research teams is highly desirable.Interested applicants please send your application package to the Faculty Search committee : bii_careers@bii.a-star.edu.sg.
