Roles & Responsibilities
Job Purpose :
Assess students’ functional physical development level; planning and implementing appropriate intervention treatment to meet individual student objectives; provide recommendations for accessibility, program development and student placement.
Key Responsibilities :
Evaluation & Assessment
- Assess and identify individual needs of students related to occupational therapy issues and concerns to develop intervention procedures.
- Provide re-assessment, review of goals and progress regularly to track students’ progress
- Evaluate, prescribe and provide provision of adaptive equipment / assistive devices as required by the student(s) to improve function.
- Monitor and evaluate student’s functional abilities and make recommendations regarding student’s suitability to prepare students for work / attachment.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to provide team understanding of student occupational performance strengths and needs.
- Evaluate the student’s ability and formulate the student’s occupational profile through a variety of functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews to gather informative data
- Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report to facilitate student participation in the educational environment, for program development and evidence-based intervention.
- Develop occupationally based intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results to support student needs and development.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
Program Planning / Intervention
Formulate / develop and implement appropriate individualized occupational therapy programs to improve student’s functional performance and skills.Design classroom-based programs that integrated with the curriculum to improve student’s functional performance and skillsSelect and prepare functional activities that can be easily modified to match student’s skill and interest thus ensure success.Provide classroom and work site modifications to improved student functional performance and skills.Conduct home visit to support student treatment needs.Provide parent / caregiver support such as home program to encourage continuity of the occupational therapy intervention at home.Provide classroom and work site modifications to support treatment needs.Assist with aspects of training for students on job-trial and work preparation program to support student functional performance and skillsEducate student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of occupation as well as health maintenance and safety.Program Administration and Management
Maintain clinical and administrative records of students to uphold professional standards and school system policy.Manage inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments, and project needs to support budget planning. Keep proper inventory of all equipment and fixtures with regular updating for accountability.Propose and justify budget to manage OT programParticipate actively in continuing education program within the organization, NCSS and other professional bodies to improve support services.Conduct in-house training programs to upgrade the professional knowledge and skills for relevant staff / parents / caregivers / volunteers in the organization to provide professional input to stakeholders.Submit monthly report and other related written reports to the executive director and school principal to support strategic operations.Review occupational therapy services to make quality improvement and changes.Collate and prepare High Need Grants documents.Conduct meeting with Allied Professional (AP) staff to review occupational therapy services for quality improvement and makes changes as needed.Prepare agenda for AP meeting with the Principal. Vet the minutes of AP assistant taken during AP meeting to track follow up actions and accuracy of report.Induct new teacher, volunteer, and teachers on work attachment to help them to understand AP services.Professional Consultation
Provide consultation to teachers and other related professional staff to improve students’ functional performance and skills.Liaise with various discipline involved in the rehabilitative treatment process. (e.g teachers, parents, principal, school administrator and professional staff to support student needsLiaise with various professional disciplines in the rehabilitative treatment process to improve student results.Professional Growth and Ethics
Participate in continuing education for professional development to provide practice that is consistent with best practice.Use professional literature, evidence based research, and continuing education content to make practice decisions.Use professional code of ethics and standards of practice to guide ethical decision making in practice.Admission and Review
Conduct screening of applicants for placement in school to support strategic operation.Assess the child’s numeracy / literacy skills, behavior, motor skills, and sensory issues to support placement for learning.Meet the parents to feedback on classroom observation to provide support services.Prepare the screening reports and meet the admission and review committee to discuss the outcomes of the application.Attend to walk-in parents and phone inquiries to answer query on admission.Attend to MAAP meeting for student placementSupport teachers in managing students during crisis situation to support student needs.Job Requirements :
Degree in Occupational Therapy recognised by the AHPC with 3 to 5 years clinical experience.Applicants the relevant qualifications with no working experience are welcomed to apply.Interpersonal skills, Classroom management skills, takes Initiative, effective communication, Passionate, Creative, Non-JudgmentalRelevant work experience with children and young adults with intellectual disability would be an advantageAbility to work with minimum supervisionValid practising certificate with Allied Health Professional Council (AHPC)Strong in verbal and written EnglishTell employers what skills you have
