Curatorial Research Assistant (Contract – 12 Months)

My client is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Curatorial Research Assistant to support in developing and preparing a major exhibition on art and artefacts from the Mogao Grottoes , a UNESCO World Heritage Site near Dunhuang, China.

Scheduled to open in September 2026 , the exhibition will explore how Buddhist art and ideas travelled across Asia, transforming local traditions and inspiring new forms of expression.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct scholarly research using primary and secondary sources (including sources) on art from the Mogao Grottoes and the Dunhuang region.
• Assist in preparing exhibition texts, bibliographies, captions, images, and footnotes for the exhibition and related publication(s).
• Support administrative and documentation tasks related to curatorial work, including maintaining object lists, coordinating image copyrights, and managing records.
• Liaise with internal and external partners such as vendors, designers, institutions, and relevant departments or agencies.
• Collaborate with the curatorial team to develop engaging narratives, presentations, and exhibition designs.
• Support the production of multimedia materials (e.g. videos, soundtracks, or digital initiatives) where applicable.
• Assist in organizing lectures, talks, and educational programs associated with the exhibition.
• Contribute to the publication process — from conceptualization and research to writing and production.
• Undertake other duties related to curatorial and exhibition development as assigned.
