About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and discreet Private Sous Chef to join a private household, supporting the Head Chef in crafting and executing exceptional Chinese meals for the family and their guests. The ideal candidate brings both traditional expertise and modern refinement in Chinese cooking, with a deep appreciation for seasonal ingredients, health-conscious dining, and cultural significance.
This role is ideal for someone who finds joy in elevating everyday dining experiences while maintaining the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Chef in daily meal preparation, primarily focusing on Chinese cuisine (Cantonese, Teochew, Sichuan, etc.)
- Execute lunch and dinner service, including plated and family-style meals
- Prepare stocks, sauces, and condiments from scratch in traditional methods
- Source high-quality, seasonal ingredients and liaise with specialty suppliers
- Maintain impeccable cleanliness and organisation of the household kitchen
- Plan and prepare dishes for family events, intimate gatherings, and festive occasions
- Cater to dietary preferences and health-conscious meal plans, without compromising on flavour
- Stand in for the Head Chef when required
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of culinary experience, with at least 2 years in a private or fine-dining settingStrong proficiency in Chinese culinary techniques (e.g., wok cooking, double boiling, dim sum prep)Experience with menu planning and customisation to suit family preferencesHigh standards of hygiene, kitchen organisation, and time managementAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalism within a private householdWillingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and occasional travelWhat Sets This Role Apart
