Roles & Responsibilities
Vale is looking to hire a highly motivated individual to join our Shipping & Distribution team. This role is responsible for assisting the team in securing mid to long-term maritime transportation capacity for Vale’s CFR sales to customers and imports for Vale’s projects and ensuring that all vessels in Vale’s dedicated fleet operate safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Additionally, the role involves supporting projects that introduce new technologies and fuel transitions to the fleet.
Main Responsibilities
- Participate in negotiations and execute mid & long-term shipping contracts aligned with Vale’s strategic objectives
- Oversee contract administration and ensure compliance with agreed terms and conditions
- Collaborate with the team to align Vale’s contracts with current and emerging shipping regulations (e.g. SOX, GHG), propose and implement commercial solutions and participate in negotiations with shipowners under the Eco Shipping Project
- Assist in the design and implementation of standardized procedures and processes to enhance contract management, ensure governance and adherence to Vale’s internal policies
- Prepare and manage documentation for submission to Vale’s Board of Directors or Shareholders Board, secure approvals in accordance with corporate guidelines
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including third-party tonnage providers
- Assist in the development of presentations and reports to Vale’s senior leadership, providing insights and updates on contract performance and strategic initiatives
- Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess and ensure the performance of shipowners and service providers
- Provide support in managing disputes or potential litigations arising from shipping contracts
- Assist in maintaining and updating chartering procedures to ensure compliance with Vale’s standards
- Support Shipping Managers on matters related to audits, compliance, and international sanctions
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Logistics, Economics, Engineering, Data Science or related disciplines2-5 years of relevant work experience in the dry bulk shipping businessUnderstand voyage calculation methods and dry bulk charter partiesExperience with Capesize market and iron ore business is preferredKnowledge of shipping systems such as IMOS and SEA is advantageousProficient in MS Applications, especially Excel. Knowledge of Power BI is advantageousGood interpersonal and communication skillsGood negotiation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skillsProactive, meticulous and willing to take on new challengesAble to work with colleagues from different geographies and time zonesPromising fresh graduates from Maritime discipline may also be consideredTell employers what skills you have
