Roles & Responsibilities
Overview
As a WSH Officer, you will assist the Project Manager in the daily operation of executing the company’s safety regulations and practices in the workplaces.
Responsibilities
1) Develop and implement health and safety plans in accordance with current legal requirements and industry standards.
2) Establish and promote a culture of safety by preparing and enforcing comprehensive health and safety policies.
3) Assess risks and ensure compliance by evaluating existing practices, procedures, and facilities against legal and internal benchmarks.
4) Conduct training sessions and presentations to raise awareness on health, safety, and accident prevention strategies.
5) Monitor and ensure adherence to safety policies and legal regulations through regular site inspections and operational reviews.
6) Inspect tools, equipment, and machinery to identify potential hazards and ensure safe working conditions.
7) Investigate workplace incidents and accidents, determine root causes, and manage worker’s compensation claims when applicable.
8) Recommend corrective and preventive actions for identified risks and suggest opportunities for safety improvement.
9) Generate reports on health and safety performance, highlighting key statistics, compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
10) Ensure consistent application of safe work practices across all teams involved in daily site operations.
11) Perform daily site inspections, ensuring all safety requirements are met, and report findings to the Project Manager.
12) Respond to safety concerns and irregularities, escalating critical issues to the WSH Officer for further action.
13) Ensure strict compliance with safety legislation as well as company-specific safety policies and regulations.
14) Oversee safe work procedure adherence by all site personnel and subcontractors.
15) Support the Project Manager in coordinating with relevant authorities during site visits, audits, feedback, or complaints, as necessary.
Requirements
1) Proven work experience as a Safety Officer within a construction or industrial environment.
2) Demonstrated experience in preparing reports and drafting health and safety policies.
3) Strong ability to analyse safety data and report key statistics accurately.
4) Solid understanding of potentially hazardous materials and practices in the workplace.
5) Hands-on experience in organizing and conducting safety drills and training sessions.
6) Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
7) Working knowledge of safety management information systems and related tools.
8) Detail-oriented and diligent, with a proactive approach to safety compliance.
9) Excellent organizational and time management skills.
10) A bachelor’s degree in safety management, Environmental Science, or a related field.
11) Valid certification in Occupational Health and Safety, such as WSQ or equivalent.
12) Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience on Land Transport Authority (LTA) projects is required.
13) Strong proficiency in Chinese (reading, writing, and speaking) is essential, as the role requires frequent communication with Chinese-speaking colleagues, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
14) Candidates with their own car or motorcycle will have an added advantage.
