Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibility
- Lead and execute Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineering activities and in-house site surveys across the full project lifecycle, from concept definition and feasibility studies through engineering studies, FEED, detailed design, installation, commissioning, and handover. Ensure engineering deliverables are optimized for reliability, operability, safety, cybersecurity, and lifecycle maintainability.
- Ensure rigorous compliance with company's technical assurance practices by embedding internal standards, corporate engineering policies, HSE requirements, and environmental protection measures into all I&C workscopes. Critically review and endorse technical deviations and variations, ensuring alignment with applicable international codes, industry best practices, and statutory requirements.
- Support the continuous review, update, and governance of company's standards, including the application of company's amendments to international standards (e.g., IEC, ISA, API, ISO). Contribute to the development of enhanced control philosophies, instrument specifications, and automation standards to address evolving industry requirements such as digitalization, advanced analytics, and cybersecurity.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct the activities of multi-disciplinary engineering teams, integrating inputs from I&C, process, electrical, mechanical, safety, and IT / cyber disciplines to deliver robust, integrated project outcomes.
- Develop, review, and validate multi-disciplinary workscopes for instrumentation, automation, and control systems, ensuring completeness, technical accuracy, and clarity. Anticipate potential design conflicts, interface risks, and operational constraints, implementing preventive measures in collaboration with project teams.
- Review, endorse, and approve contractor-prepared method statements for compliance with project objectives, functional safety requirements, system integration needs, and offshore / plant operational practices. Act as the key technical liaison with contractors and vendors to resolve complex issues in system design, integration, and commissioning.
- Develop, monitor, and update detailed engineering schedules, integrating in-house activities with external FEED / EPIC contractor timelines. Identify critical-path items, manage interdependencies between engineering deliverables, and ensure seamless alignment with project milestones and execution strategies.
- Lead the technical evaluation of instrumentation and automation bid packages, assessing scope completeness, technical compliance, compatibility with existing systems, lifecycle performance, and cybersecurity resilience. Provide recommendations during bid clarifications, negotiations, and contractor selection.
- Review and evaluate contract changes and variations to ensure adherence to approved project scopes, company's governance frameworks, and applicable technical standards. Assess the impact of changes on cost, schedule, operability, and long-term maintainability, providing risk-based recommendations to management.
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement in instrumentation and control systems, including the integration of advanced digital technologies (e.g., smart instrumentation, Industrial IoT, advanced process control, and predictive maintenance systems) into company's projects.
- Support the competency development of junior and associate engineers, including structured training, mentoring, and knowledge-transfer programs, particularly focusing on the development of engineers.
