Roles & Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Strategic Advisor with deep expertise in the Chinese derivatives and commodity markets to support our continued growth. The senior advisor will bring over 20 years of experience across physical commodities, commodity derivatives and sell side experience.

Buy side experience will preferred. S / he shall bring established relationships with senior executives, policymakers, regulators, and key market participants within China’s financial derivatives ecosystem.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise senior management on developments in Chinese commodity markets, including policy direction, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic trends.
  • Leverage existing high-level relationships with SOEs, commercial clients / prospects, exchanges, regulators, and other FIs to support strategic engagement and deal origination.
  • Provide insightful analysis and recommendations on commodity flows, pricing trends, and their implications for financial markets and investment portfolios.
  • Facilitate introductions and foster long-term partnerships between the firm and key Chinese market participants.
  • Support strategic initiatives, including joint ventures, capital raising, and market entry or expansion projects.
  • Function as a trusted advisor to internal teams on navigating China’s regulatory, political, and cultural environment.

QUALIFICATON & EXPERIENCE

  • 20+ years of experience in commodities, investment banking, trading, or financial advisory roles with a strong China focus.
  • Extensive professional network among senior leaders at commodity firms, SOEs, exchanges, and regulators in China.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate market insights into actionable strategies for institutional investors or corporate decision-makers.
  • Strong understanding of global commodity markets, including metals, energy, and agricultural products.
  • Familiarity with Chinese policy frameworks, regulatory institutions, and geopolitical considerations influencing the sector.
  • Exceptional communication and advisory skills in both English and Mandarin (fluency required).
  • Proven record of strategic influence and business impact at the senior executive level.
  • Prior leadership experience within a global trading house, investment bank, or commodity fund.
  • Ability to operate effectively across cross-cultural and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and strategic mindset with the ability to navigate complex environments.
