⚙ What Does an M&E Coordinator Do?
“M&E” = Mechanical & Electrical (sometimes “MEP” if Plumbing included). An M&E Coordinator ensures that the mechanical, electrical (and sometimes plumbing) parts of a building project are planned, executed, coordinated, and delivered correctly.
Key Responsibilities / Job Scope
- Review and coordinate M&E drawings , shop drawings, technical specifications. Ensure all submissions, revisions, materials, samples, and method statements are approved by consultants / authorities.
- Liaise with consultants, clients, contractors & sub‑contractors to resolve technical issues and ensure works match design & specification.
- Coordinate with other trades (architectural, structural, plumbing, fire safety) so M&E installation fits into overall site work & sequence. Avoid conflicts and clashes.
- Monitor and supervise installation of M&E works (HVAC / ACMV, electrical, lighting, plumbing, fire‑protection systems, etc.). Ensure quality, safety, adherence to codes.
- Testing, commissioning, inspections : ensure systems function correctly and are safe before handover.
- Track project progress : schedule, timelines, site coordination, reporting progress, flagging delays or technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with regulations, codes of practices, building standards, safety requirements.
- Manage documentation : approvals, submission of drawings & materials, maintaining records.
🎯 Requirements (Education, Skills, Experience)
Education : Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related field.Relevant experience : Typically 3‑5 years in M&E coordination in construction, or supervising / monitoring mechanical & electrical systems.Technical skills : ability to read & interpret design drawings (shop drawings, M&E drawings), knowledge of CAD, AutoCAD; experience with BIM / Revit / Navisworks often preferred.Good understanding of local codes, standards, authority submission procedures.Communication & coordination skills : must liaise with many stakeholders (clients, consultants, subcontractors).Planning & organizational ability : schedule tracking, progress reporting, site coordination.Safety mindset : knowledge of safety regulations, ensuring works comply with safety, codes, inspections.Tell employers what skills you have
