Role Overview

• Role Title: Senior Site Reliability Engineer/ DBA Lead
• Function: Technology / Engineering
• Seniority Level: Mid-Senior level
• Role Type: Full-Time

About the Role

• We are looking for a DBA Lead to build and lead our DBA team.
• You will be the technical owner of all production databases, primarily deployed on AWS and GCP, covering MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch etc.

Key Responsibilities

Global Database Ownership (AWS + GCP)

• Serve as the technical owner for all production databases across international environments (MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch).
• Define and drive the global database architecture strategy, ensuring scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency across AWS and GCP.
• Lead capacity planning, performance engineering, and long-term database technology roadmap.
• Lead multi-region HA/DR design and operations (e.g., AWS SG → JP).
• Ensure the stability, reliability, and high availability of databases supporting large-scale, mission-critical workloads.

Build & Lead the DBA Team

• Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-impact DBA team.
• Establish operational excellence, including on-call rotations and incident escalation processes.
• Build a strong culture around performance, resilience, and engineering quality.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to elevate the organization’s overall database expertise.

Database Engineering & Automation

• Drive automation for provisioning, schema management, backup/restore, and failover operations.
• Partner with Infra/SRE teams to build scalable DB pipelines, self-service tooling, and observability platforms.
• Champion Infrastructure-as-Code practices, ensuring consistency, repeatability, and operational efficiency across all environments.
• Drive innovation in tooling and automation to reduce manual effort, improve reliability, and enhance engineering velocity.

Must Have

Technical Expertise

• 10+ years of experience in database administration or engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with MySQL, including performance tuning, replication, HA, schema design, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch in production environments.
• Proficiency with AWS database stack (Aurora, RDS, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, KMS, IAM).
• Experience with GCP CloudSQL/Mongo Atlas/Elastic Cloud is a strong plus.
• Solid understanding of Linux, networking, containers, and cloud architecture.
• Strong scripting/ automation skills (Python, Shell, Terraform is a plus).

Leadership & Ownership

• Proven ability to build and lead a DBA or data infrastructure team.
• Strong ownership mindset — able to driving design, policy, and governance.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams (Ops, Infra, Security, Dev, Data, QA).
• Strong awareness of data privacy, security, and cross-border compliance considerations.

Nice to Have

• Experience in high-traffic industries (OTA, e-commerce, FinTech, gaming).
• Familiarity with microservices, service mesh, or multi-region database architectures.
• Experience working in a fast-growing, multi-location engineering organization.
• Experience participating in data governance or data compliance projects is a strong plus.
