Junior Data Analyst (SQL, Athena, BigQuery)

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for a Junior Data Analyst to support data-driven product development, experimentation, and business-as-usual data analysis. The role will focus on analysing product performance, supporting A/B testing initiatives, and providing insights that help Product Managers and engineering teams make informed product decisions. The successful candidate will work with data from multiple sources, write SQL queries, build dashboards, and translate findings into clear and actionable recommendations. This is a suitable role for an early-career data analyst who has strong SQL skills, hands-on exposure to cloud data platforms such as Amazon Athena and Google BigQuery, and an interest in product analytics and experimentation.

Key Responsibilities:

A/B Testing and Experimentation:

• Support the design, execution, and analysis of A/B tests for product features, user experience improvements, and optimisation initiatives.
• Work with Product Managers to define hypotheses, success metrics, control groups, test periods, and measurement approaches.
• Analyse A/B test results using appropriate data analysis and statistical methods.
• Prepare clear summaries of test outcomes, learnings, and recommendations.
• Document testing methodologies, assumptions, findings, and best practices for future reference.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

• Analyse product metrics such as daily active users, monthly active users, app downloads, engagement, retention, conversion, and other key performance indicators.
• Write SQL queries to extract, transform, and analyse data from Amazon Athena, Google BigQuery, and related data sources.
• Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards and recurring reports to track product health and performance trends.
• Identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for product improvement through data analysis.
• Provide regular data updates to support product planning, roadmap discussions, and business decision-making.

Dashboarding and Data Visualisation:

• Create clear and user-friendly dashboards using tools such as Looker, Tableau, Looker Studio, Google Data Studio, or similar platforms.
• Present data findings in a structured and easy-to-understand format for non-technical stakeholders.
• Ensure reports and dashboards are accurate, consistent, and aligned with agreed business definitions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

• Work closely with Product Managers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Translate business questions into data analysis tasks and deliver meaningful insights.
• Support the wider team in scaling data-driven product iteration and experimentation practices.
• Collaborate with technical teams to improve data quality, tracking, and reporting processes.

Requirements:

• 1 to 2 years of experience as a Data Analyst, Product Analyst, Business Analyst, or similar role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience querying large datasets.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Athena and Google BigQuery.
• Basic understanding of A/B testing methodology, experiment design, and statistical analysis.
• Experience with data visualisation or business intelligence tools such as Looker, Tableau, Looker Studio, Google Data Studio, or similar tools.
• Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and present findings clearly.
• Good communication skills with the ability to explain data insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work with structured datasets.
• Willingness to learn, collaborate, and work in a fast-paced product environment.

Good to Have:

• Familiarity with product analytics tools such as GA4, Firebase, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to experimentation platforms or feature flagging tools.
• Basic understanding of mobile app analytics, user engagement metrics, and digital product performance.
