AS400 Developer (COBOL, RPG, CL, Financial Industry, Payments, DB2 and embedded SQL)

Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

• Lead development and enhancement initiatives for applications running on IBM i / AS400 platforms
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into detailed technical designs and specifications
• Oversee coding, unit testing, and deployment activities while ensuring adherence to quality standards
• Conduct root cause analysis for production issues and implement long-term fixes to prevent recurrence
• Review code, enforce development standards, and ensure best practices are followed across the team
• Coordinate with stakeholders, including business users, architects, and onsite teams, to ensure alignment
• Manage task allocation, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones
• Support production systems by monitoring performance, resolving incidents, and ensuring system availability
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, test plans, and status reports
• Participate in design discussions and provide technical recommendations for system improvements
• Mentor junior team members and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team
• Drive continuous service improvement initiatives and contribute to process optimization

Requirements

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in IBM i / AS400 technologies
• Strong experience in IBM i / AS400 application development
• Proficiency in COBOL, RPG (RPGLE), and CL (CLLE)
• Sound experience in financial industry with good experience in payments
• Hands-on experience with DB2 and embedded SQL
• Familiarity with development and change management tools
• Solid understanding of system performance, job scheduling, and operational support on IBM i platforms
• Experience in application maintenance, enhancements, and production support environments
• Ability to work in distributed (onsite-offshore) delivery models
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging capabilities
