Head of Legal & Contract (Construction Law/Certified Lawyer)

Our client is an Singapore company in the Construction industry. Due to their current expansion plan, they are looking for an Head of Legal to join their Legal/Contract team, in hopes of developing the current high performing team.

They are located in Town – easily accessible via various modes of transport

Job Description:

Contract Management & Legal Advisory

• Manage the full lifecycle of contracts from drafting and negotiation through execution and completion.

• Review, negotiate and finalize main contracts, subcontract agreements, supplier agreements and other commercial contracts.

• Work closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement and Project teams to ensure contractual compliance and effective contract administration.

• Identify, assess and mitigate legal, contractual and commercial risks.

• Monitor contractual obligations, milestones, deliverables and key deadlines.

• Advise on contractual deviations, claims, variations and disputes, and represent the company’s interests where required.

Commercial & Project Advisory

• Provide legal and commercial advice to the Finance Director and Project Teams on contract terms, pricing, risk allocation and negotiations.

• Review tender and bid documents, identifying key contractual risks, obligations and commercial opportunities.

• Advise and support the preparation of Extension of Time (EOT), Progress Claims, Variation Claims and Loss & Expense claims, ensuring documentation is properly substantiated and contractually sound.

• Support negotiations with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to achieve commercially favorable outcomes.

• Provide legal guidance on project recovery plans, supplier performance and contractual enforcement to minimise project delays and financial exposure.

• Assist in resolving commercial disputes and negotiate practical solutions to support timely project completion.

Job Requirements:

• Qualified lawyer, called to the Bar and in good standing in Singapore or a recognized common law jurisdiction.

• LL.B. or equivalent legal qualification.

• Minimum 5–8 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable law firm or in-house legal environment.

• Strong experience in contract, commercial and trade-related matters.

• Proven experience within the construction, engineering, infrastructure or related industries.

• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, subcontracting, procurement and commercial claims.

• Experience handling EOT, variation, progress and Loss & Expense claims will be highly advantageous.
