Roles & Responsibilities
The job holder is to provide engineering solutions to matters relating to cargo stowage especially project / OOG cargo, for the G2O team globally.
The job holder will advise voyage management team (Especially port captains) regarding the feasibility of cargo transportation as needed from the cargo / voyage planning phase to execution of cargo operation in both Port of loading and discharge.
The job holder must uphold the safety of people involved and companies’ assets when advising the voyage management team, and ensure that the solutions formulated are always practical, achievable within the time available and other factors such as laycan, proficiency of local team involved, client / subcontractors / surveyors and material / equipment availability.
The job holder’s position is primarily office based, with some travel to familiarise and support the global team’s engineering needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To respond to all day-to-day cargo handling / stowage related enquiries.
- To create detailed engineering drawings / calculations such as stowage plans, visibility plans, lifting plans / calculations, sea fastening plans / calculations and load spreading plans / calculations and method statements as required
- To conduct prelim engineering assessment of cargo stowage feasibility pertaining to the vessel structural strength (local and global) during enquiry phase as per request from Chartering / Commercial team and advise them regarding necessary details / drawings required to make a sound assessment.
- To advise the chartering / commercial team regarding estimated costs relating to any structural modifications required for facilitating extra ordinary cargo shipments (as needed).
- To advice the voyage management team regarding technical limitations and any other issues that can affect the execution of a cargo shipment.
- To conduct full scale engineering analysis and generate reports / technical (fabrication) drawings to be send to vendors for fabrication and installation onboard.
- To work closely with the Materials management team / Voyage operations to ensure that materials required for any such modifications are either acquired from the G2Ocean stores across the world or planned & sourced efficiently based on the vessel port calls.
- The job holder will adopt a highly proactive approach to his work, anticipating and reacting to problems as they occur.
- Support and advice local operational staff and port captains onsite while they are deploying the engineered solution, make adjustments / modifications to the plan and provide necessary calculations / documentation required
- Using his / her professional experience and know-how to achieve the most cost-effective solutions, taking account of all the factors including but not limited to safety, cargo care and productivity.
- To assist the Head of Engineering in maintaining company’s manuals and other internal information sources relating to cargo handling and stowage matters.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Education : Masters / Bachelors in Structural Engineering / Naval Architecture or Mechanical engineering (with sound knowledge of structural mechanics and material sciences)
Specialist Skill & Experience :
Sound knowledge & experience with industry FEM structural analysis software such as Solid works, Ansys Mechanical or Simcenter FemapSound knowledge of classification society and industry design guidelines is preferredMin 3-4 years in Ship / Offshore / Marine structural design is preferredGeneral understanding of Vessel Motion dynamics is preferredOther skills required :
Knowledge of Classification society regulations and other international rules / regulations as they apply to cargo handling and stowage, including use of IMDG code, CSS code of safe practice for cargo securing.Knowledge in cargo stowage applications (AutoCAD, Load planner CAD or similar) preferredPersonal qualities :
