Roles & Responsibilities
Job Description
1. Ground Investigation & Data Analysis
- Plan, supervise, and interpret geotechnical and geological site investigations (boreholes, in-situ testing, lab tests).
- Review and interpret soil and rock data, geological maps, and hydrogeological information to define ground conditions.
- Prepare ground models and geotechnical baseline reports (GBRs).
2. Geotechnical Design & Assessment
Provide input to tunnel and shaft design including temporary and permanent support systems.Perform stability and deformation analyses for tunnels, portals, and deep excavations.Design ground support, shotcrete lining, rock bolts, and waterproofing systems based on ground conditions.Evaluate tunnel face stability, settlement prediction, and ground-structure interaction.Contribute to geotechnical design drawings, calculations, and reports.3. Construction Support
Provide on-site geotechnical advice during tunnelling and underground works (TBM, NATM, drill-and-blast, cut & cover).Review and approve contractors’ geotechnical method statements, risk assessments, and monitoring plans.Monitor excavation, ground conditions, and instrumentation data (settlement markers, inclinometers, piezometers).Assess deviations from expected ground conditions and recommend design or construction modifications.Support incident investigations and mitigation of geotechnical issues encountered during construction.4. Monitoring & Risk Management
Develop and implement geotechnical monitoring programs to assess ground and structure behaviour.Evaluate and interpret monitoring results to ensure stability and safety compliance.Manage geotechnical risks and maintain a live geotechnical risk register throughout project stages.5. Coordination & Documentation
Liaise with project stakeholders including design consultants, contractors, and client representatives.Coordinate with structural, civil, and MEP teams to resolve geotechnical interfaces.Prepare technical reports, design summaries, and site memos in accordance with project standards.Ensure compliance with project specifications, local codes, and health and safety regulations.Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil / Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology3 years of relevant experience in geotechnical.Proven experience with underground construction, tunnel excavation, and support design.Familiarity with various tunnelling methods : TBM, NATM, drill & blast, or cut-and-cover.Proficiency in geotechnical design and analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience, GeoStudio).Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics, groundwater control, and earth pressure theories.Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring interpretation.Good communication and report-writing skills.Ability to work in site environments, sometimes under challenging conditions.Able working 6 days per week, 12 shiftsTell employers what skills you have
