Legal Counsel (Mining & Infrastructure)
Location : Singapore (with potential travel to West Africa and UAE)
Role Overview
We are presenting our client in search fora mid-level legal counsel who is ready to take on significant responsibility and grow into the company’s future Head of Legal / Senior Legal Counsel role.
This role is ideal for a self-motivated lawyer with a strong foundation in contract drafting, mining / infrastructure projects, and regulatory compliance, who is ready to work independently and handle end-to-end legal matters.
You will draft and negotiate key contracts, advise management, and manage disputes, while developing the strategic and leadership skills to eventually run the legal function entirely on your own.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Support
- Provide practical legal advice to management and operational teams on mining, shipping, infrastructure, and logistics projects.
- Research and advise on legal risks and regulatory obligations across Singapore, West Africa (OHADA jurisdictions), and Laos.
- Support ESG compliance and risk management initiatives.
Contract Drafting & Negotiation
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including :EPC agreements, mining and concession agreements, joint ventures, shipping contractsSupply, offtake, consultancy, employment contracts, and NDAsWork closely with project teams to ensure contracts are aligned with business objectives.Develop and maintain standard contract templates for internal use.Dispute & External Counsel Coordination
Coordinate with external counsel for disputes, arbitration, and litigation matters.Support internal stakeholders in gathering evidence and preparing case materials.Assist in creating strategies to prevent disputes and resolve them early.Corporate Governance & Compliance
Support corporate secretarial work, shareholder resolutions, and regulatory filings.Assist with implementing compliance policies for anti-bribery, sanctions, and ESG.Participate in employee training sessions to build compliance culture.Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with regulators, government agencies, and project partners as needed.Occasionally travel to West Africa and Laos to support negotiations and site visits.Career Development
Work closely with executive leadership to grow into a future standalone legal counsel role.Take ownership of legal projects progressively, with increasing autonomy.Qualifications & Experience
7–10 years PQE, qualified in a common law jurisdiction (dual qualification advantageous).Strong commercial contracts experience, ideally in mining, infrastructure, or EPC sectors.Demonstrated ability to draft, negotiate, and manage contracts independently.Experience in disputes, regulatory compliance, and employment law preferred.Highly motivated, resourceful, and willing to work with minimal supervision.Willingness to travel internationally and grow into a leadership role.Tell employers what skills you have
