Dog Groomer Job Scope (Responsibilities)
1. Professional Grooming Services :
- Perform full-service dog grooming, including bathing, drying, brushing, and styling / clipping / trimming all breeds according to breed standards or specific owner requests.
- Provide specialty services like de-shedding treatments, creative grooming, or hand-scissoring / hand-stripping (if applicable).
- Perform essential hygiene tasks : nail clipping / filing, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing.
- Safely dematt and detangle coats as necessary, prioritizing the dog's comfort and well-being.
2. Animal Health and Safety :
Prioritize the health, comfort, and safety of all animals during the grooming process, using gentle handling techniques.Conduct basic pre-grooming and post-grooming health checks to identify and report any skin abnormalities, parasites (fleas / ticks), lumps, or signs of illness / infection to the owner and management.Adhere to all safety and sanitation protocols, including the proper use and maintenance of grooming tools and equipment.3. Customer Service and Communication :
Consult with pet owners to understand their grooming preferences, desired style, and any specific concerns regarding their dog's health or temperament.Provide expert advice to owners on at-home coat care, grooming maintenance, and suitable products.Maintain accurate and detailed records of services provided, pet behavior, and any observed health issues.4. Salon Operations :
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, including disinfecting tools, tubs, and grooming stations.Manage grooming appointments efficiently and ensure timely service delivery.Assist with other salon duties, such as answering phones, booking appointments, and retail sales.Key Skills and Qualifications (Requirements)
1. Experience & Technical Skills :
Proven experience as a professional Dog Groomer (or Pet Groomer).- at least 1 year will be ideal.Proficiency in a variety of grooming styles and techniques for different dog breeds and coat types.Knowledge of animal handling, behavior, and low-stress restraint techniques.Preferred : Professional grooming certification or completion of a recognized grooming program.2. Essential Soft Skills :
Exceptional patience, compassion, and a genuine love for animals.Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.High level of attention to detail.Reliability and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.3. Physical Requirements :
Ability to stand for extended periods.Physical capability to lift and safely handle dogs of various sizes (e.g., up to 50 lbs or more).Comfortable working in an environment that may be noisy or wet.Tell employers what skills you have
