Regional Discipline Manager – Mechanical & Metallurgy Engineering

The Regional Discipline Manager – Mechanical & Metallurgy Engineering is responsible for developing departmental business, production and organizational plans, managing multiple interdisciplinary teams across regional offices, and ensuring financial and operational targets are achieved. The role requires deep expertise in mechanical engineering disciplines (rotating, static, packaged equipment, HVAC) and metallurgy (materials and corrosion). As a subject matter expert, the manager resolves complex technical and organizational challenges and supports function‑specific projects, products and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to managers and professional staff within a department.
- Accountable for the performance and results of multiple disciplines within a department.
- Apply managerial expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives.
- Resolve a variety of complex problems that have implications within the area of responsibility.
- Develop operational plans to achieve business objectives.
- Influence customer and / or organizational leadership to achieve operational objectives.
- Manage the performance of discipline employees through goal setting, ongoing assessment, and coaching.
- Contribute to functional strategy development.
- Propose scope splits between engineering offices and / or subcontractors at the bid stage and the award.
- Negotiate with other engineering disciplines and project management teams to ensure the best schedules and execution plans within agreed budgets.
- Attend project kickoff, review and vendor meetings as required.
- Interface with peers and Global Engineering.
- Foster teamwork among regional or functional managers.
- Provide and direct bid assistance.
- Ensure availability and allocate discipline manpower resources to meet deliverables and schedules.
- Maintain historical norms to establish budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare / review the department’s budgets and forecasts.
- Manage financial and operational objectives and align departmental plans with business goals.
- Meet group DOE forecasts within schedule and budget.
- Review and approve key departmental documents and drawings.
- Identify and resolve technical, operational and organizational problems.
- Keep the Director, Area Manager and Project Management Teams apprised of high‑level activities and concerns.
- Plan and recommend department manpower, training and development, and assist in recruiting resources.
- Coordinate the training and development of discipline personnel.
- Evaluate performance and recommend changes in classification and compensation of department personnel.
- Travel regularly to other office locations within the Offshore Middle East and, if required, to the Chennai engineering centre.

Engineering Directors, Managers and Supervisors of other design disciplines, Project Managers, Planner Managers, Proposals Department, Procurement Department, Safety Department, HR Department, QC and Certification Group, External McDermott Offices, Client Representatives, Vendor & Subcontractor Representatives
Direct Supervises
All Discipline Managers, Engineers, Designers, and support personnel within the department
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.20+ years of experience with proven leadership in the oil and gas industry, including major contractors or consultants.5+ years of proven management experience leading full mechanical discipline (rotating, package and static equipment, plus HVAC scope).Registered Professional Engineer or member of a Professional Engineering Society, as applicable.General cross‑disciplinary knowledge of design techniques, analysis methods and statutory codes applicable offshore.Detailed knowledge of project execution and managerial skills.About Us
