About The Job
The Singapore University of Social Sciences is seeking a full-time research fellow for a multi-year multi-country research study on the state of the families in ASEAN.
Background
ASEAN countries are experiencing diverse and rapidly changing demographic and societal trends. These include aging populations, increased internal and cross-border migration, and the rise of dual-income households. Additionally, global challenges such as climate change threaten agricultural productivity and livelihoods, particularly in developing ASEAN nations. Technological advancements, such as artificial intelligence, are transforming industries, with varying impacts on employment opportunities for individuals across different age groups and educational levels. Amidst these shifts, strengthening support for families is crucial. Families form the cornerstone of social cohesion and resilience, and ASEAN countries have much to learn from each other. A collaborative approach to studying socio-demographic changes, understanding family challenges, and co-creating solutions is essential for addressing these complex issues. This research project seeks to deepen regional knowledge about how ASEAN families are coping and explore strategies to support them effectively.
Aims
The project aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the state of ASEAN families, examine how families in the region are adapting to demographic, societal, and environmental changes, and identify ways to strengthen support for families through evidence-based policies and interventions.
