The Role
Rystad Energy is seeking an ambitious and motivated candidate with experience in renewables & power markets, an analytical mindset, good communication and programming skills, and a strong understanding of renewables & power markets of Southeast Asia.
The Renewables & Power Research is part of the analyst department in Rystad Energy and is responsible for maintaining and developing our database and products within the sector. The work done by the Renewables & Power team is critical to achieving our company's ambition of becoming a prominent advisory firm in the energy transition. The role involves collecting, modeling, and analyzing data to provide clients with insights into long-term electricity markets, including renewable energy sources (such as solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro), conventional sources (such as gas and coal), energy storage, and the low carbon supply chain. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with our team, consultants, and business developers in our global offices.
Key responsibilities / tasks
- Analyze renewables & power markets in Southeast Asia to understand historical power generation by source and available capacity.
- Examine country energy policies to support forecasting the future power mix.
- Regularly produce comprehensive reports to present our views and analysis on key markets.
- Provide thought leadership on power, renewables, and related supply chain markets.
- Conduct commercial and economic evaluations of all electricity sources, including NPV, LCOE, and breakeven analysis, which will be used to forecast electricity prices in key regions.
- Gather and analyze power and supply chain market data in solar, wind, and geothermal segments.
- Collaborate with data analysts to create algorithms that crawl power data from official sources and develop in-house models to forecast long-term electricity prices, country demand, and generation stack.
- Collect asset-level data (i.e., power plant information) to populate our in-house database, including power generation capacity, technology, ownership, and capacity factor for each plant.
- Maintain and regularly update databases with the most up-to-date information.
- Take ownership of delivering insightful reports and commentaries on topical events.
- Conduct regular research trips to build and maintain a strong network of industry contacts.
- Present our research at conferences and in front of clients to showcase our expertise in the power sector.
- Support our clients and the business development team in their efforts to advance our company's growth.
Requirements, Experience & Skills
Fluent in English. Advantageous to know any other Southeast Asian language.Proven experience in market research, consulting, developer, power utility roles, or academia focusing on the power or energy sector.8 - 10 years of work experience or more in the abovementioned areas.Minimum Bachelor's degree in a data-driven or energy-related field such as electrical engineering, renewable energy, mathematics, engineering or economics.In-depth understanding of power markets and pricing mechanisms.Ability to effectively communicate complex analysis clearly, both verbally and in writingProficiency in relevant skills such as Python, R, Power BI, or similar would be advantageous.Tell employers what skills you have
