Objective of the Role
The global commodity risk expert develops and manages a global governance and process to support commodity price risk mitigation strategy and provides visibility to commodity exposures and comparison to budget and governance policy. A particular focus of the role will be to develop necessary tools and collaborate with Suntory business units globally to provide expertise on risk mitigation strategies and inherent market risk intelligence.
Job Description
- Develop commodity risk management governance process and implement and enhance commodity coverage tool for global usage.
- Collate and share data-driven commodity market insights and price forecasts, including driving predictive price forecasts for raw materials, packaging and energy commodities for both alcohol and non-alcohol products, specific to each market, e.g., APAC, EU, GB&I, and Americas.
- Consolidate BU-level covered commodity positions monthly, working closely with the global BU finance and procurement communities.
- Provide a 2-year rolling commodity price forecast with detailed ‘High / Medium / Low’ assumptions, with basis and fair-value benchmark pricing for key commodities to support the longer-term decision-making process.
- Evaluate covered positions versus individual business policies outlining Value at Risk recommendations backed by ‘What-if Scenarios’.
- Provide expert advice to the C-Suite and the procurement leadership, covering a holistic view of global macroeconomic indicators and get buy-ins on hedge strategies by key commodities, e.g., grains, softs, energy, plastic resins, and global ocean freight.
- Proven track record working within a matrix structure in a global setting with strong interpersonal and influencing skills. Strong preference for experience working in Japanese companies and knowledge of cultural nuances to report and discussion with management in Japan HQ.
- Minimum of 15 years in commercial roles, led procurement transformation projects and experience in leading regional or global procurement teams with deep expertise in commodity fundamental and technical analysis.
- A thought leader with strong commercial acumen, a tertiary education in English. Minimum finance degree, trading knowledge with an MBA in International trade, and professional accreditations are highly desirable.
