Centre for Advanced Robotics Technology Innovation (CARTIN) are seeking a Research Associate to develop thermal-inertial odometry for robotics in dark or smoky environments. The Research Associate will work with thermal cameras and IMU to enable reliable pose tracking in fire-response applications. Experience in thermal-inertial odometry, thermal imaging, and ROS1 / 2 is expected.
Key Responsibilities :
- Develop feature-based or learning-based thermal-inertial odometry pipelines.
- Extract motion cues from thermal camera sequences under varying conditions.
- Calibrate and synchronize IMU and thermal data streams.
- Benchmark odometry accuracy and drift in low-visibility fire simulation environments.
- Support integration with mapping and SLAM subsystems.
Job Requirements :
Master's degree in Robotics, Computer Vision, or related field.Solid background in thermal-inertial odometry, with a particular emphasis on leveraging depth sensors to enhance motion estimation accuracyProficient in C++ / Python and ROS1, ROS2.Experience with camera-IMU calibration, photometric error modeling, or deep thermal odometry.Familiar with OpenCV, Kalibr, VINS-Fusion, or similar frameworks. We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
